This is a site to showcase and discuss some of the work I do at a local newspaper in Northwestern Pennsylvania, The Meadville Tribune. I began work here as a part-timer in Sept. 1997 working with Jim Stefanuucci and Kirk Serena. I love photographing the community and trying to find images that not only tell a story, but show us a glimpse into who we are as a people. Not all the pictures are pretty, but I hope they are in some way reflective of the life of this place.
I will sometimes explain my photos or the process in which they were made in hopes to give an even deeper understanding not only of the image, but the act of making image and the role of photographer/photography in society and in history. I got into the work because I like doing it, but more importantly because I think making images is extremely important. I also believe we need people who not just take photos, but understand how to make the elements within a photo communicate soundly, honestly and with an understanding of the ethical principles of journalism and reportage. The 'Pictures' page on this site will be a blog style listing of pictures as they happen. I won't promise a picture everyday, but it is possible that there will be nearly everyday something new from my work at the paper. |
